Volunteer Income Tax Assistance/Tax Counseling for the Elderly (VITA/TCE) Volunteers

 We are always looking for volunteers to assist with tax preparation. No experience is required. We will provide all training and you’ll have lots of help from experienced volunteers. The work is very rewarding. You not only get to help people who really need your help, but you’ll also get to meet a lot of interesting people in your community. In addition, you’ll learn a bit about taxes, which could come in handy for yourself and your family.

The YouTube video above provides a great introduction to the VITA and TCE programs. Locally, the VITA program, which targets low to middle income taxpayers is sponsored by the United Way while The TCE program focuses on seniors and is sponsored by AARP.

Except for their target audiences, the programs are virtually the same. AARP Tax-Aide is slightly broader in scope and requires some additional AARP training, but both programs use the same tax preparation software, follow the same IRS rules, and require completion of the same certification tests.
